Sasha Piastro

Soprano

Sasha Piastro

Sasha Piastro is a versatile professional singer, equally comfortable with classical and musical theater styles. Ms. Piastro has performed many operatic roles, including Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus, Euridice in Glück’s Orfeo ed Euridice, Pamina in The Magic Flute,  Lucy in The Telephone, and Alma in Lee Hoiby’s Summer and Smoke. She has also performed with the Pittsburgh Opera Chorus for Pittsburgh Opera’s productions of Der Fliegende Holländer, Carmen, and Dead Man Walking.  Past music theater roles include Maria in West Side Story, Eva Peron in Evita, Adelaide in Guys and Dolls, and Sister Amnesia in Nunsense.

In the summer of 2008, Ms. Piastro was a young artist with the Emerald City Opera Young Artist Institute in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. With Emerald City Opera, she performed Despina in Così fan tutte and sang in the chorus for La Traviata.

An interest in German language and culture brought Ms. Piastro to Germany, where she spent a summer with the Music Theater Bavaria program. While there, she performed Marzelline in scenes from Fidelio and was chosen to appear on a local television station singing several musical theater numbers.

Last season’s engagements included Djamileh with Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, Zerlina in Don Giovanni with Center Stage Opera and the soprano soloist for Handel’s Messiah with the Messiah College Choral Arts Society. This season she will be singing Leïla in Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de Perles with Center Stage Opera.

Ms. Piastro has sung with numerous opera and music theater companies including Emerald City Opera, the New York Conservatory for the Arts, Pittsburgh Music Theater, The Ellis School, Pittsburgh Opera, and Penn State Opera Theater. She has also sung with internationally respected conductors such as Robert Page, John Mauceri, and Sidney Harth, and with well-known directors such as Dorothy Danner, Jonathan Eaton, Sarah Meyers, and Charlie Repole. She is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the National Opera Assocation, as well as the Associated Guild of Musical Artists.

Ms. Piastro received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in voice performance from Carnegie Mellon University and her Master of Music degree in voice performance and pedagogy from Penn State University. She is currently working on her Doctorate of Musical Arts in voice performance at Shenandoah Conservatory. Ms. Piastro is a member of the voice faculties at Lycoming College and Susquehanna University.
