Richard Harrison

Richard Harrison

Mr. Harrison received his Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Maryland where he coached with George Shirley from the Metropolitan Opera and Martin Katz (accompanist for Marilyn Horne and other Metropolitan Opera singers). 

While at the University he sang the leading tenor roles in “The Marriage of Figaro,” “Signor Deluso” and “Il Maestro di Musica.”  He then attended the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria where he sang Basilio in “Figaro’s Hochzeit” and was the tenor soloist in “Die Zieben Worte.”  He sang the role of John in the premier performance of Patrick Cavanaugh’s opera, “The Last Supper” at the Folger Theatre in Washington, DC.  He has performed with the Washington Opera in Rigoletto and I Capuletti Ed I Montechi, the Baltimore opera in the Barber of Seville, Rigoletto, Madame Butterfly and Il Trovatore, and one season with the Lancaster Opera in “The Magic Flute.” 

Mr. Harrison has also performed numerous leading roles in musical theatre productions and was most recently seen in “My Fair Lady.”   In the fall of 2006 he sang the tenor solos in a Concert of arias written by Jewish Composers living during the Third Reich for Opera Camerata in Washington, DC. 

In March of 2008 he sang the role of Andrea Chenier in Andrea Chenier for Center Stage Opera in Harrisburg, Pa.  He will be singing Rodolfo in La Boheme in November of 2008 also with Center Stage Opera.
