Pradichaya Poonyarit

Soprano

Pradichaya Poonyarit

Born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand, at just two years of age Pradichaya Poonyarit was appearing on stage and being heard in radio broadcasts throughout her native country. From the outset she was exposed to- and loved- songs from both east and west, and throughout her youth she also learned about all aspects of business from her parents. These two aspects- music and business- continue to define who she is.

Attending school in the United States from her early teenage years on, she majored in opera and vocal performance at the Hartt School of Music. Soon after starting her family, however, she returned to Thailand to manage her parents' company and became the Managing Director of their international import/direct-selling limited corporation.

During this time, she was also a force in the Bangkok classical music arena, producing her own concerts, teaching voice at two of the country's most prestigious universities, appearing in several concerts and recitals (including several with the Bangkok Music Society); in addition, she was one of the predominant soloists of the newly-formed Bangkok Opera, which made its debut in 2001. She sang in that company's royal command performances, the roles of: Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Miss Jessel in The Turn of the Screw, Dido in Dido and Aeneas, and roles in two different world premieres. She was also invited to perform in the 2003 concert that marked the inauguration of the Thailand chapter of the International Wagner Society, presided over by Richard Wagner's grandson, Wolfgang.

Returning to the US in 2005, she has since performed in numerous recitals and concerts. She has also appeared with Espresso Opera in New York City, with whom she has performed the roles of Leonora in Il Trovatore, as well as the title role in Adriana Lecouvreur. She assumed the title role in Suor Angelica with Capitol Opera Harrisburg, and recently she added to her repertoire the role of Zerlina (Don Giovanni), with Capitol Heights Lyric Opera.

She has also formed La CoffeeMelodie Suite, an organization through which she provides expert vocal instruction, and which is devoted also to providing various opportunities for musicians.

In the summer of 2012 Pradichaya returned to Bangkok, where she gave masterclasses and voice lessons to advanced students and voice teachers, as well as an operatic recital at the end of the summer program. She has been invited back this summer to repeat that success, and later in the summer joins her husband, Ralph Schatzki, in an exclusive recital in upstate New York.

The role of Maddalena marks Pradichaya’s debut performance with Center Stage Opera.
