Melinda Benson

Mezzo Soprano

Name

Melinda Benson graduated from the University of Iowa with a Master of Arts degree in voice in 2005.  She is currently writing her thesis paper and plans to graduate with her Doctorate in the fall of 2010. Melinda has been teaching private voice for 10 years including two and one half years as a teacher's assistant at the University of Iowa and one year as an adjunct voice professor at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Melinda currently resides in Newark, DE. She maintains a voice and piano studio out of her home and is a Kindermusik educator. She is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), College Music Society (CMS) and Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).  Melinda recently sang in the Austrian American Society Competition in Delaware and was awarded a cash prize for second place. Recent performances include: Alto soloist with the Delaware Valley Chorale, the role of Second Touriére in Suor Angelica with Center City Opera in Philadelphia, PA, and the role of Clarina in The Marriage Contract with University of Iowa Opera. Upcoming performances include: the role of Olga in The Merry Widow with Delaware Valley Opera Company and a duet recital both planned for this summer.
