Marcos Santos

Marcos Santos, a native of Portugal, did last year his Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall debut in New York City as Romeo in Opera scenes by Romeo et Juliette with great acclaim.

Mr. Santos successfully auditioned for the highly selective Master vocal studies program at Mannes College of Music in New York.

While at Mannes, he performed the role of Des Grieux in Massenet's Manon, conducted by Joseph Colaneri (Metropolitan Opera). Mr. Santos made his debut as Alfredo in La Traviata in New Jersey with the stage director James Marvel.

Recently worked as Alfredo in Verdi´s Traviata with the famous stage director Sir Jonathan Miller in Norway conducted by Marc Soustrot. Mr. Santos sang a duet Verdi concert with the acclaimed soprano Maria Guleghina and the conductor Lawrence Foster at the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, and the 4th Jew in Salome by Richard Strauss. In the last seasons he has performed roles in Samson et Dalilah, Elektra with leading American Soprano Deborah Polanski and
lately in Norma all conducted by Maestro Lawrence Foster.

Marcos Santos made his debut at Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon in the opera The Nose by Shostakovich with Donato Renzetti. Performances include soloist works by Mendelssohn's Elijah with the New Jersey Chamber Orchestra, and in Haydn's Saint Nicolai Messe with the Summit Chamber
Orchestra and lately with the Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra. As a recitalist he has performed solo Recitals all over the world, in Tokyo at Suntory Hall in Yokohama and Morioka in the presence of HRH The Imperatrice Princess. In
Madrid at Escorial, in Paris at the Conservatoire Superieur, in Sweden in Malmo and Unsgskar, in Lisbon, Azores and recently in New York City at the Merkin Hall, Stamford – Connecticut.

As a concert singer Mr. Santos has performed with Orquestra Sinfónica da O.P.M., Orquestra Sinfónica Juvenil, and has sung the tenor soloist in masterworks such as Mozart's Requiem, Bontempo's Requiem, and Haydn's Nelson Mass, Petite Messe Solenele de Rossini, Messiah of Haendel in several festivals in Portugal, Spain and USA. Mr. Santos did master classes with Lorraine Nubar, Regine Crespin, Ragnar
Ulfung, Nico Castel, Diana Soviero,Sherril Milnes, Renata Scotto and Regina Resnik in Portugal and in New York and was a participant at the IVAI – Montreal and Virginia.

Mr. Santos was a semi-finalist for the Accademia di Cantanti of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.In August 2009 Mr. Santos made his debut with the leading role in the Opera Goyescas by Granados touring in south of Sweden, with the stage director Daniel Helfgot and conductor Mikael Janzen. Recently, he did the United States premiere of the opera Medea by the greek
composer Theodorakis in New York city, with greatacclamation.

Marcos holds a Master in Voice interpretation and currently is doing his DMA.
