Emma Vawter

Soprano

Name

Emma first started singing classical music in earnest as a recipient of the Yale Voice Lesson Scholarship at Yale University, where she graduated cum laude with a B.A. in English Literature along with the V. Browne Irish Award for the Performing Arts.  While an undergraduate, she performed with Opera Theater of Yale College and Yale Baroque Opera.   She also sang with the University Church Choir and Recital and Repertory Choruses to fulfill her work study requirement.  Emma recently returned to the United States from Munich, Germany, where she lived and studied German for a year upon graduating.  She has also spent time in Italy, when she received the generous assistance of a Howard Topol Fellowship to fund a vocal course and her participation in the chorus of L'elisir d'amore with the Italian Operatic Experience.  Currently a Maryland/D.C. resident, she is soprano section leader at Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church and recently sang as the second soprano soloist in Michael Haydn's Litanie della Madonna at Strathmore with the Levine Women's Chorus.  She has performed the roles of Zulma in Rossini's L'italiana in Algeri and Jennie in Kurt Weill's Down in the Valley.  Partial roles include Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), Rusalka, Alice Ford (Falstaff), and La suora zelatrice (Suor Angelica).   She debuted at Center Stage Opera as the First Witch in Macbeth.
