Emily Woodruff

Soprano

Name

Soprano Emily Woodruff is an emerging artist performing standard and contemporary repertoire across the US and abroad. She has appeared as Suor Genovieffa (Suor Angelica) at the Miami Summer Music Festival, Elvira (Don Giovanni) with Nevada Opera, and Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro) at the State Theatre Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, and performs frequently with Rochester Lyric Opera.

Emily’s passion for new music led to recent appearances in the Composer’s Voice Concert Series sponsored by Manhattan new music ensemble Vox Novis, as well as the Brooklyn College Electro-Acoustic Music Festival, offering a new multimedia interpretation of John Eaton’s song cycle A Greek Vision. Last year, she premiered the role of Geraldine in Christabel, a chamber opera by Jennifer Bellor, and gave the New York premiere of California-based composer George N. Gianopoulos’ Op. 12 Three Songs for Soprano.

In addition to her vocal studies with Katherine Ciesinski and Monica Harte, Ms. Woodruff holds both a B.A. in Music (piano) and an M.A. in Music Theory and History from the Pennsylvania State University’s Schreyer Honors College, as well as an M.A. in Musicology from the Eastman School of Music.

Engagements for the 2014-15 season include appearances as Frasquita (Carmen) and Elvira (Don Giovanni) with Center Stage Opera, solo work with the Rochester Oratorio Society in Handel's Chandos anthem #7 and Haydn's "Lord Nelson" Mass, and a return to the Composer’s voice series singing Robert Voisey’s Music in Motion for soprano and violin.
