Edward Bogusz

Edward Bogusz

The American bass-baritone Edward Bogusz was born and raised in the Philadelphia area. He received his training at Temple University, State U. of NY @ Buffalo, and Istituto Lirico Internationale di Barga (Italy), where he worked closely with the legendary Italian basso Italo Tajo. His operatic debut was on tour with Teatro Comunale di Firenze and he also performed at Palazzo Pitti as well as at Opera Barga.

Returning to the US, he made his American debut with Des Moines Metro Opera singing the title role in Verdi's "Falstaff".He has gone on to sing with many of the major opera companies and orchestras in the country, including San Francisco Opera, Minnesota Opera, Houston Opera, Virginia Opera Assiciation, Mississippi Opera, Indianapolis Opera, Opera Delaware, and Buffalo Opera. He has appeared in concert with Richmond Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, Wolf Trap Festival, Concerto Solists of Philadelphia (now called Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia), Delaware Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, International Bach Society at Lincoln Center, and New Hampshire Bach Festival.

His wide repertoire includes well over one hundred operatic and eighty concert-oratorio roles, and he has been particularly associated with the great comic roles for bass and bass-baritone in the operas of Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini, and Richard Strauss.

Mr. Bogusz has also achieved prominence as a music educator and concert producer. He has served on the faculties of Cornell University, Ithaca College, Temple University, and Westminster Choir College and has been guest adjudicator for the Metropolitan Opera National Auditions (Regional level.) For the past ten years, he has produced and performed in "Edward Bogusz and Friends", a concert series in the Haddonfield NJ area where he has presented over fifteen major operas in concert form featuring experienced professional singers as well as aspiring young artists while offering the audiences of South Jersey superbly sung versions of the classic repertoire in new and compelling versions.
