Alyssa Lehman

Mezzo Soprano

A versatile artist and musician, Mezzo-Soprano, Alyssa Maria Lehman has enjoyed a varied and colorful career in opera, sacred and concert music and lieder. Alyssa Maria began her musical training in piano and later pursued classical voice. At 19, she made her solo debut as Maria in West Side Story and later her classical soloist debut with the Maine Music Society in Bach’s O Ewiges Feuer, O Ursprung der Liebe (BWV 34). Since then, Alyssa Maria has collaborated with numerous musicians, opera companies and groups in the US and Europe.

Roles include Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Carmen (Carmen), Angelina (La Cenerentola), Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) and Maddalena (Rigoletto).  She had the privilege of working under the baton of assistant Metropolitan Opera conductor, Joshua Green in scenes of Il Barbiere di Siviglia, collaborated in fully staged productions with the Tuscia Opera Festival in Viterbo, Italy, as well as performed several recitals and concerts throughout Italy. Alyssa Maria has been a soloist with the Newtown Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Russell Hoffmann and is a recurrent guest soloist with the Southampton Chamber Music Society.  Along with traditional roles, she has collaborated in new operas and productions, creating the roles of Nancy in Dennis Hyams’ world premiere of his opera, The Golden Arrow, Helena in Michael Dutka’s, Midsummer and debuted the role of the Old Woman in Richard McIntyre's premiere of his one-act opera, Jubilee.   

As part of her musical training, Alyssa Maria participated at the Spoleto Vocal Arts Symposium in Italy, working with renown coaches Nico Castel, Carol Castel, and Enza Ferrari. At the Mozarteum Music Conservatory in Salzburg, Austria, she concentrated on the vocal repertoire of W.A. Mozart and German lied with soprano, Edda Moser.  Alyssa Maria studied under soprano, Evelyn Mandac and coloratura soprano, Deborah Cook.

 

The 2022-2023 season will see Alyssa Maria take part in Wilmington Concert Opera’s world premiere of Sarah Melnick’s opera Girondines as Madame Roland and with Center Stage Opera as Isabella in Rossini’s The Italian Girl of Algiers.

 

When she isn’t singing and performing, Alyssa Maria loves her “role” as a wife and a mom to her two children and caring for her patients as a registered nurse at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital outside of Philadelphia, PA.
